Biography
Ir. Heru Prasetyo is a graduate from Industrial Engineering, Institut Teknologi Bandung in 1974. Then, he received his MBA degree in Master of Business Management from Asian Institute of Management, 1978. Since 2009, he became the Deputy Head I (Planning and International Relations) of Indonesia President’s Delivery Unit for Development Monitoring and Oversight. As his contributions in academic area, since 2004 he has been active as one of School Advisory Council member of School of Business and Management (SBM), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).

After graduated and then more than 20 years experience and actively involved in many business and management areas, in 1999 he became one of the founding committee members of Indonesia Business Link, an organization of MNCs to support Indonesia’s Small and Medium Enterprise which focused on Business Ethics side in SMEs. One year later, he was appointed as a member of Governing Board and Executive Board of Partnership For Governance Reform, with World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNDP, GOI, the Private Sector and Civil Society. He maintained his position until 2003. Beside these experiences, until 2002 he also became the Country Managing Director of PT Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company which helped his clients to become high-performance businesses and governments.

His appointment to the Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Agency for Aceh and Nias (BRR) in 2005 returned him to the political limelight. Following growing public concern at the slow progress of reconstruction in the tsunami-hit province of Aceh and the Nias islands in southwest Sumatra, President of Republik Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono reacted in May 2005 by establishing a high-powered implementing agency, known as the BRR, to take responsibility for coordinating project work in the disaster areas. Ir. Heru Prasetyo was appointed to assist and support the Head of BRR, Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, as the Director of International Relations – BRR Aceh Nias. Ir. Heru Prasetyo proved himself as Mangkusubroto’s right-hand to be an effective interlocutor with foreign donors and the 420 NGOs that worked in Aceh as well as Nias in the wake of the disaster. Public criticism over the slow pace of reconstruction gradually diminished as it became apparent that solid progress was being made. The agency finally wound up in mid-April 2009, handing further reconstruction work to the provincial government in Aceh and Nias. Overall, BRR was generally hailed as a success: over its four-year life, the agency allocated US$6.7 billion and built over 140,000 homes, 1,759 school buildings, 363 bridges and 13 airports. His involvement with BRR team can take credit for having helped to ensure that out of the total US$7.2 million at its disposal, 93% had been disbursed by the end of BRR’s mandate. No major corruption scandals affected the giant project and this result vastly exceeded expectations that prevailed at the outset.

Since 2010, he is actively involved as secretary (2010-2011) and member (until now) of REDD+ Task Force, Government of Republik Indonesia. His responsibility includes developing a national framework on climate change mitigation in forestry, agriculture sectors and natural resources in Indonesia.
